According to a report on Ampere Games, Final Fantasy XVI was by far the most-played PS5 game during its launch month in Japan, following news that the RPG had sold three million copies in its launch window.
The report claims that Final Fantasy XVI was the sixth biggest game by monthly active users globally for Sony’s flagship home console in June 2023, with around 13% of PS5 owners playing the game. The biggest market was the USA (one third of players), Japan (one quarter), as well as the UK, Germany, Canada, and South Korea.
The average play time per hour was highest in Japan, with more than 22 hours logged during June, nearly four hours longer than the average play time in the US.
Furthermore, the Square Enix-developed RPG was the second-highest PS5 title by daily active users globally for three days following its launch. Final Fantasy XVI managed to beat Call of Duty during this time, although fell short of topping FIFA 23.
Final Fantasy XVI was released exclusively for PS5 on June 22, 2023. You can read our full review here.
