In the first of what’s sure to become a monsoon by the beginning of next week, the first official review of Hideo Kojima’s maiden Snake-inspired adventure, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, has surfaced.
Coming courtesy of French publication ‘JeuxVideo Magazine’, the review – which does not need to adhere to the strict review embargo which is scheduled to lift by Sunday because of print deadlines – is a wholly positive one, with a score totalling 17/20.
Here’s a breakdown of how the score was tallied with a decent translation coming from NeoGAF user GhostTrick:
Gameplay – 4 out of 5 stars
The Metal Gear game with the best gameplay, and with the most possibilities even though some aren’t that useful.
Graphics – 4 out of 5 stars
Game looks clean. Although, it clearly shows its crossgen roots. Not the best looking game.
Sound – 4 out of 5 stars
A lot of tracks from the 80s and a nice sound ambiance.
Length – 4 outs of 5 stars
A long playthrough (more than 40 hours) but one that can be tedious at times.
A rich gameplay but also some tedious missions, a plot which promises so much and delivers so few, MGSV is as impressive as it leaves you unsatisfied. A good game, but one difficult to understand. Could it be Kojima’s last mystery?
Well, there you have it. Positive signs leading up to the game’s official launch on September 1. PlayStation Universe’s currently hard at work formulating what we hope to be the most definitive review of one of 2015’s biggest games. So, stay tuned.
