Game console ban in China temporarily lifted, allows PS4 & PS3 to be released

China’s ban on the sale of foreign video game consoles within its borders has been temporarily suspended, paving the way for the sale of video game consoles in the country.

News of the decision came via a statement by the China State Council, summarized by Reuters. Game consoles will be to be made within Shanghai’s free trade zone and sold in China by "foreign-invested enterprises," on the condition of gaining government approval.

China’s lifting of the 14-year ban on video game consoles was a long-awaited move by system manufacturers, eager to tap into a humongous market. Back in 2011, we reported on Sony’s intent to begin PlayStation-related activities in China.
