Does your wallet feel any lighter now? Yes? Good, because we’re feeling exactly the same. And, just in case you’ve been living under a rock for the past 31 days, we’re referring of course to March’s scrumptious games line-up, which after the relatively dry software spell we experienced for the first few months of the year, was welcomed with open arms. And it wasn’t just the arrival of PlayStation 4’s biggest game event of the year so far – that’s inFAMOUS: Second Son, in case you didn’t already guess – that made it so significant, but rather the result of a handful of major releases that includes high-definition revamps, sequels, new IP and the odd hidden gem thrown in for good measure. In short, we’ve been spoilt rotten.
So, where to start? Well, first up, we finally got our grubby mitts on the long-awaited South Park: The Stick of Truth, with Obsidian’s foul-mouthed RPG delivering everything fans could have wanted out of a video game adaptation of Canada’s celebrated animated show. Joining Cartman and co is the PS4 release of zombie-’em-up Dead Nation: Apocalypse Edition, alongside fellow PlayStation Network juggernauts The Walking Dead Season 2: A House Divided and Basement Crawl, giving you plenty of reason to part with some digital dollars.
The back half of the month gets even better, though. Dark Souls 2, From Software’s follow-up to its acclaimed 2011 brutal RPG, arrived on stores to similar response and proved that the developer had no intention of dumbing things down for the mainstream audience. Meanwhile, three major franchises also competed for our cash: Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z and Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD, the latter also coming to PlayStation Vita.
Rounding things off is BioShock: Infinite’s Burial at Sea – Episode Two, Dynasty Warriors 8: Xtreme Legends Complete Edition, and, of course, the Big One — inFAMOUS: Second Son for PS4. As we said, spoilt rotten — and we imagine your finances are suffering as a result.
Inevitably, that makes our task of awarding one of these games our Game of the Month accolade that much more difficult. After chatting amongst ourselves, the vote came down to two titles: Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD and inFAMOUS: Second Son, with the former almost coming out on top. However, Sucker Punch’s open world action-adventure ultimately came out on top — and well deserved, too.

inFAMOUS: Second Son looks brilliant, sounds brilliant, and plays like a dream. I just finished it, and I already want to play it again. Few games have made me put down my controller at the end and say, “Now THAT was awesome.” inFAMOUS: Second Son has proven itself a rare gem by being one of those games."
