The GameMaker engine from developer YoYo Games will be adding support for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S in March 2021, the company announced today.
While next-generation console support is currently ongoing in a closed beta, the commercial release won’t happen until next month.
Any company looking to support Sony and Microsoft’s new consoles will need to purchase the corresponding license, in this case the PlayStation and Xbox license. Speaking on the news, Stuart Poole, general manager of YoYo Games, commented:
As a result, our growing indie development community will soon be able to develop and launch their games straight onto these next-generation console platforms, with all the ease and simplicity they’ve come to expect from GameMaker.
