Remember that perennial stereotype that gamers are supposedly geeky types who still live at home and possess little to no social skills? Well, according to a new survey by YouGov that is indeed the case with today’s video game fanatics, who are described as still living at home and are pretty much broke most of the time in terms of cash.
According to the survey, the average gamer is male, aged between 16-24, who live rent-free with their parents or family members. Financially, they take in a gross personal income of under £5,000, and do not place great emphasis on looking physically attractive or young.
Furthermore, the survey found that gamers are science-fiction and action film fans, and enjoy listening to pop/90s music, and tend to enjoy shows from America more than those made in the U.K. Curiously, they describe themselves as "geeky," "clever," and "funny" while admitting they’re also "lazy," "nerdy," "introverted," and "nervous."
So, PSU readers, does this survey reflect you in anyway? Do you agree with its findings or do you think it sounds a bit outdated? Of course, this is only based on gamers found in the U.K., so there’s no telling what findings you may get from a U.S. demographic.
