My wife isn’t exactly a gaming fan. Sometimes she entertains herself by watching me play, helping me solve puzzles (she’s better at it than I am), and watching the global story in story-driven games. I, on the other hand, never play online games, so I had trouble choosing games to play together online or on the same console.
Recently, we finally started playing together and this article will be updated as our journey continues.
The problem with the PS5 store is that you can’t set the filter ‘Games for two on one console’ and get a list. You have to search for the top titles on the internet, download the games and see if they are actually playable together. Sometimes it says that it is possible, so you download Crash Bandicoot 4 and play the game one by one. Or you download something like Balan Wonderworld or Heavens, and it’s just not realistic or interesting to play them together.
So, below is a list of games that can be played by two people and that we haven’t deleted after half an hour of gameplay.
It Takes Two
I think this is the first game that comes to mind when it comes to games for two. Firstly, it can be played ONLY by two people. Second, it’s perfect for playing with family and people who have never held a gamepad before.
Each level offers new gameplay conditions, new locations, character abilities, interactions, and perfectly choreographed plot points. On one level, you hunt wasps with bombs and nectar in a shooter mechanic, and on the next level, you play a Diablo-like RPG with mages and warriors. The whole game is a fascinating journey of a couple, and it is in such a company that it is perfect.
It’s worth saying that we liked the game so much that we knocked out one platinum for two.
Sackboy A Big Adventure
I think this is the best example of a game for two on PS5, reminiscent of old school gaming – when your best friend comes over and the two of you run through Mario, the Turtles, or any other platformer from the nineties in front of the TV on a Dandy. I don’t know if people stopped visiting each other or if something else has changed, but there are almost no good platformers for two in the Story.
The game is actually the fourth part of Little Big Planet, about a character made of scraps of fabric who confronts a very terrible evil. The plot doesn’t play any role in the game itself and is just a reason to move from level to level, so let’s not dwell on it.
The main thing is a good old-fashioned arcade game with a top-down view, where you collect points, gold balls for which you can buy new armour and try to find all the interesting stuff on the levels.
As for character customisation through clothing. My wife can spend up to 10 minutes here every time we go to a merchant. You can buy both a ready-made costume and individual medals, creating a character to your liking.
The main problem with the game is its complexity. The first two worlds with all the additional quests are pretty quick to complete, but then it gets really difficult. And in the middle of the third world, you have to really strain to earn all the coins for the gold medal and find all the balls on the level. Somewhere around here I lost my partner and decided to finish the game alone.
Sackboy A Big Adventure can hardly be called a children’s game, because in some places it is quite cruel to the gamer. And I’m not sure that a child of 5-7 years old, say, will be able to play with an adult on a level playing field.
It’s been an exciting journey for my wife and I to find good two-player games on the PS5, but it’s not just consoles that can be fun for two people to play together. The concept is as follows. You are a kiwi. You are a bird without wings. You and your friend came and got a job somewhere in Australia or New Zealand at a post office. Now you need to do a variety of tasks every day to earn stamps that can be used in a variety of ways.
The main part of the game is a set of 4 levels that are repeated three times in one season. On these levels you need to:
- Press the keys of a typewriter, whose body is scattered around the room, to type a telegram
- Sort mail and incoming letters
- Send large parcels by sticking the correct stickers on them and punching in the correct area code
- Put together letters from pieces of words and syllables to create something that looks like a kidnapping letter.
But with each level, modifiers are added. Sometimes giant mosquitoes will fly in, sometimes emo couriers will start a fight, sometimes a thunderstorm will electrify all the keys and you’ll need to press them together, and so on and so forth. The variety of modifiers is truly incredible. Given that the main task is not so easy to do, and with complications, it can be very difficult to meet the deadline.
In addition to the main tasks, there are also recurring tasks, where you have to repair the sewage system while sending letters, delivering mail on ostriches, feeding your couriers, and so on. The developers simply do not run out of ideas for tasks, and this has a great effect on the gameplay – we played for about 8 hours and did not get bored with the game at all.
I will continue this list as I play more interesting games for two on PS5.
A Way Out
After completing and completely enjoying It Takes Two, it was only logical to try the first co-op game from Yousef Fares.
A Way Out is a co-operative adventure that can only be played together. It tells the story of two very different people with dark pasts who are trying to escape from prison to punish the person who put them there. It’s a kind of road trip with a twist – the characters gradually reveal themselves, become attached to each other, and race to the end, despite the obstacles.
It’s a great game for 5-6 hours on a single console, but you need to take this into account. If you’ve already played It Takes Two, you’ll notice how raw this game is. Of course, it wasn’t like that at release, because the adventures of the dolls are an evolution of the ideas behind A Way Out and even earlier Brothers. But after completing the latter game, it’s sometimes quite difficult to perceive A Way Out.
But these feelings disappear on the third level, the story completely absorbs you, and the ending is able to squeeze a few tears even from the fourth playthrough.

It’s not always easy to find two-player games on PS5, but it’s worth it. Playing together is something special. It’s fun, creative, and a great way to spend time with someone. These co-op games offer a unique experience for everyone.

KeyWe: A Big Adventure is something completely different, as it combines humour and teamwork. The game’s tasks are unusual and unpredictable, which keeps players on their toes. Finally, A Way Out is a fascinating story about friendship and redemption. The game is a bit more adult, but very emotional and unforgettable.
These games show how diverse and interesting co-op games can be. Each of them offers something unique. They are perfect for players who want to share the screen and work together.
