During Sony’s Gamescom press conference, the company announced that Ubisoft would be heavily supporting the PlayStation Vita, primarily with a new Assassin’s Creed title, and others.
“With its processing power, dual tactile screens and cameras, PS Vita allows creators like Ubisoft new and unique opportunities to develop innovative games,”said Yves Guillemot, chief executive officer of Ubisoft. “We’ve got a strong and varied line-up that will offer fun and immersion to all audiences of the PS Vita.”
Currently in development by Ubisoft for the Vita are six titles:
Assassin’s Creed
Not much has been revealed about this new Assassin’s Creed title, other than the game would feature a new characters, and a new storyline. However, we can’t help but get excited that this is the first Assassin’s Creed in a long while to break free from the Ezio mold, and tell a new story – a detail that just might get us back on the bandwagon.
Rayman Origins
This one is a no-brainer. Rayman has veterans and newcomers of the franchise chomping at the bit to get a taste of this fan-favorite 2D platformer. Orgins features magnificent and colorful art, which we’re positive will look absolutely stunning on the powerhouse that is the Vita.
Lumines
A franchise that came to life as a launch title to the Vita’s younger brother, the PSP, Lumines was a hit from the start. A fantastic puzzle game incorporating both light and sound patterns, we’re sure that Limines Vita will be just as worth it as the original.
Asphalt
Asphalt is a racing game from Ubisoft that is set for release on the Vita at some point. Those are literally all the details we know about it so far, but it can’t hurt to have another racing title on the Vita alongside ModNation Racers, WipEout 2048, and Ridge Racer.
Dungeon Hunter Alliance
A hack-and-slash dungeon crawler, Dungeon Hunter Alliance appeals to fans of games of the sort derived from Diablo, or more specifically Diablo II. Calling it a Diablo-clone isn’t totally unfair, but still, RPG fans will be happy to pick this one up on the Vita.
Michael Jackson the Experience
What can be said about this one? MJ the Experience is a music rhythm game that players can sing and dance to with motion controls – or at least that’s how it worked on the PS3/360/Wii. No details have been given on how this will work on the Vita, but we hope it won’t be the same Experience as the DS/3DS versions.
"We’re delighted with the support and innovative content Ubisoft are bringing to PS Vita,” said Zeno Colaço, Vice President, Publisher & Developer Relations, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe. “Great games are at the platform’s heart and with some of Ubisoft’s biggest and best brands coming to PS Vita, we are very excited to work with them in delivering the deepest gaming experience on the most powerful handheld entertainment system on the planet”
