Gamescom Could Host A Physical Event For 2021

Gamescom 2021 organisers are plotting to bring the European games show back to a physical event, after this year’s showcase went entirely digital due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Gamescom 2021 To See Return To Physical Return?

Geoff Keighley took charge for Gamescom 2020 with the Opening Night Live show, which showcased a wealth of games and saw some two million people tune in from home. And, while the digital side of things aren’t going anywhere by the sound of things, it looks like organisers are hoping to host a physical event, too.

Said Felix Falk, head of the German Games Industry Association:

The extraordinary circumstances made Gamescom 2020 extremely challenging, yet especially exciting. The digital concept demonstrates how big the international potential of our games event – already the largest in the world – still is.

At the same time, however, it has become clear how important the on-site conference, in addition to further digital development, is for the community and the games industry. So, we now have to take our experience from this year and use it to develop the ideal combined on- and offline event for 2021.
