Gaming Industry in need for new IPs, says Ubisoft

Let’s face it; today’s society is a realm of trends. Whether it is music, movies, or fashion, everything is centered on a core theorem. Even the gaming industry finds itself wrapped in particular trends, at least that is what Rob Cooper, the head of Ubisoft UK. When talking about Assassin’s Creed, Cooper had this to say:

“I think the success worldwide of Assassin’s Creed absolutely proves that new IP can live and prosper within the sequel and licensed based competition," said, Cooper. "The industry is crying out for new and compelling content and we’re delighted that AC has lived up to its expectations."

Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy, and Gran Turismo, all great exclusive titles coming to the PlayStation 3, but they are indeed sequel based IPs. On the other side of the spectrum, there are games like Little Big Planet, Heavenly Sword, and Uncharted add depth to the PS3 lineup, but more importantly they are new IPs that gives the consumer fresh experiences. That is until the game becomes big and we get an Uncharted 2 and Heavenly Sword 2. Either way, it is always good for the industry to shoot out new IPs from time to time; only if they were more.
