GDC 2011 attracts 19,000 folk, next year’s event dated

An eye-watering 19,000 visitors flocked to this year’s Game Developers Conference in San Francisco last week, event organiser ThinkService has revealed.

That’s more than last year’s event, which attracted an equally impressive 18,000 visitors. The milestone has been described as a “record,” apparently.

Furthermore, ThinkService also lifted the curtains on the official dates for next year’s event, with GDC 2012 scheduled to run March 5  – 9, 2012.

“The past week of GDC truly embodied the passion and spirit of the video game community,” beamed GDC director, Meggan Scavio.

“From seasoned game veterans to aspiring game professionals in areas spanning social and online games through major console titles and beyond, we are honored to continue to serve the industry.”

Highlights of GDC 2011 include the first proper glimpse at EA’s Battlefield 3, Nintendo bigwig Satoru Iwata’s keynote, plus of course NGP chatter from Sony and a meaty discussion by Epic Games’ Cliff Bleszinski.
