Caleb McAlpine, a huge Borderlands fan currently battling stage 4 cancer, has revealed that developer Gearbox is arranging for him to visit the company’s Texas headquarters next month allowing him to see Borderland 4 ahead of its 2025 launch.
Tragically, McAlpine’s doctors have informed him that he has around 7 – 12 months to live, and had caught the attention of Gearbox’s Randy Pitchford after taking to the Borderland 3 community to ask if there was any way for him to see the next instalment ahead of release.

Speaking with GamesRadar via email, McAlpine admitted that he was “floored” by the response and Pitchford’s offer. He also revealed that he’s been a fan of Borderlands since the first entry, and played during his time in the army.
I looked them up and saw the stories and it touched my heart even more knowing that Gearbox is such a great company to do this when they didn’t have to at all. I honestly did not expect it to blow up like that. I had thousands of notifications and streamers that I have watched their videos commenting on it. When I received an email from Randy I couldn’t believe it. It was awesome to see the CEO of Gearbox emailing me and telling me that he would do whatever he could to help me out. I was just floored to be honest. In a good way. I never expected anything like this. It almost felt like a dream to be honest.
We would actually have Borderlands parties at the house or in the barracks where we would put three or four TVs together and play that way.
Borderlands 4 is scheduled for release in 2025, although a concrete release date has yet to be announced.
