Microsoft announced during its Xbox Games Showcase that Gears of War E-Day is going to be an Xbox console exclusive, and won’t be coming to the PS5 as originally expected.
Asha Sharma, CEO of Xbox, commented:
For the past 25 years, Xbox has delivered some of the greatest games of all time. Games that changed what was possible, games that brought players together and games that defined generations.Xbox was built on the spirit of creativity and heart, and as we kick off the show with Gears of War: E-Day, it’s only fitting that as we return to Xbox, we return to Gears. So today, we’re announcing that Gears of War: E-Day will be an Xbox console exclusive.
And just so there’s no misunderstanding, Microsoft clarified on its official website that Gears of War E-Day and Clockwork Revolution are not timed exclusives – they’re not coming to PS5, fullstop.
As part of our focus on the return of Xbox, we also announced that Gears of War: E-Day and Clockwork Revolution will be Xbox console exclusives. These are not timed exclusives. Games already announced for multiplatform releases will stick to that plan – we’re committed to investing in and growing Xbox both on console and beyond.
Jeff Grubb had previously stated that Gears of War E-Day was going to be released for Sony’s console, but the decision was made recently to keep it exclusive to Xbox. However, Grubb added that there’s finished version of Gears of War E-Day that does exist for PS5. “So yeah, there’s a basically finished version of Gears for PlayStation sitting on a drive,” said Grubb.
