Square Enix has announced on X that Gex has joined Astro Bot as one of the many bots that players can hunt down and rescue, having made the cut before any other character owned by the Final Fantasy creator.
Gex was developed by Crystal Dynamics and debuted in 1995 for the 3DO and later launched on the PlayStation, PC and Sega Saturn. The game takes the form of a side-scrolling platformer starring the titular gecko, who travels through the media dimension to defeat the resident Big Bad, Rez. Gex himself is defined by his snappy shades, wise-cracking nature, and obsession over all things TV.
Limited Run Games announced last year that it would be releasing a range of retro titles in physical and digital formats for PS5 & PS4, among which includes Gex, Tomba!, Clock Tower, and Gargoyles Remastered.
The Gex Trilogy still hasn’t seen the light of day yet, but is set to feature Gex, Gex: Enter the Gecko & Gex 3: Deep Core Gecko, all of which feature numerous quality of life improvements and extra using the Carbon Engine.
