Ghost Of Yotei Dev Confirms ‘At Least One Movie And Other Spinoffs’ Are In The Pipeline For The Franchise

Nate Fox and Jason Connell of Sucker Punch Productions have confirmed in an interview with the New York Times that the studio is planning more spinoffs beyond the newly announced Ghost Of Yotei, which now the pair notes has now positioned Ghost Of Tsushima as the start of a franchise rather than a standalone game.

This franchise “will include at least one movie and other spin-offs,” the article notes, with the Ghost Of Tsushima film being directed by John Wick: Chapter 4’s Chad Stahelski.

As for Ghost Of Yotei itself, the game takes place some 300 years after the events of its predecessor, and is partly inspired by Mount Yotei. Sucker Punch team members visited the mountain itself, as well as Shiretoko National Park, where Fox took some audio recordings.

When we started working on a sequel, the first question we asked ourselves is ‘what is the DNA of a Ghost game?’ It’s about transporting the player to the romance and beauty of feudal Japan.

Inside the park, you have to watch a video telling you about the dangers of bears. Being in this incredibly beautiful park with jagged cliffs and water, yet all the time being aware there were dangerous bears, was electrifying. We strive to bring that into the video game – that feeling of danger.

Ghost Of Yotei is scheduled for release on PS5 in 2025.
