Electronic Arts announced today that American Gladiator Gina Carano will be joining the cast of its forthcoming Real-Time Strategy (RTS) title, Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3.
The undefeated EliteXC MMA combatant will play Soviet commando, Natasha, in the game’s live-action movie sequences. Additionally, the character will also appear as a playable unit in the game.
Speaking on her role, Carano commented, "Natasha is such a cool, powerful character, her actions definitely speak louder than her words which is something I definitely identify with. I can’t wait to see how everything turns out and I hope all of the gamers out there have a great time wreaking havoc as me.”
Red Alert debuted in 1996 for the PC, and follows a story line completely disparate from the Tiberium-themed elements of current releases. The game was met with both critical and commercial success upon its release, spawning multiple expansion packs, many of which found their way onto the original PlayStation in the late 1990s. A sequel for PC followed in 2001.
The third instalment is currently scheduled for release on PS3, PC and Xbox 360 later this year, although the status of the PS3 version was recently put in doubt following a recent press release mentioning only the PC and Xbox 360 versions.
Regardless, nothing official has been announced yet in regards to the PS3 version, so as far as we know, it’s still headed to the Sony platform.
Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.
