Gorgeous Star Wars Battlefront screenshots & major details (40-player matches, split-screen) arrive

As the Star Wars Celebration event in Anaheim, California continues this weekend, more news continues to break on the highly-anticipated Star Wars Battlefront. Dazzling new screenshots and new gameplay details on the upcoming Star Wars game have appeared.

Star Wars Battlefront will allow 8 all the way up to 40 players to join the galactic frenzy between the Rebel Alliance and Galactic Empire on multiple planets including “snowy Hoth, sandy Tatooine and gooey Sullust, a lava-spewing planet referenced in 1983’s ‘Return of the Jedi,’ as well as many ‘Star Wars” games and novels”

As in past games, performing well on the battlefield will allow you to then play as iconic characters such as Darth Vader and Boba Fett.

During gameplay, you can play in either first-person or third-person and seamlessly swap between the two.

Battlefront will not feature a traditional campaign but rather a series of short missions that can be tackled alone or cooperatively online or, as many requested, split-screen.

Additionally, there will be no space battles and no locales. vehicles, or characters from the prequel trilogy.

“Space is hard, right? Not from a [development] perspective, but from a logistical perspective. Is that fun? For us it doesn’t make sense to create a battle above you if you’re fighting other players who are not there to fight. Our focus is to do planetary battles,” Battlefront Producer Craig Mcleod explained to IGN. “No space battles. It’s all about the epic planetary battles and getting that right. Fighting with X-Wings and TIE Fighters, we have that. It’s taken in the atmosphere. This is something we discussed with Lucasfilm and they were happy to be on board with that.”

Downloadable content for Battlefront is in the works and the first being the Battle of Jakku from the new Star Wars Episode: The Force Awakens film, which will release for free on December 8. Those that pre-order will have access to the DLC a week early on December 1.
