Gran Turismo 6 demo passes 1.3 million downloads

Sony Computer Entertainment has revealed that the demo of Gran Turismo 6 has notched up 1.3 million downloads.

The playable teaser of Polyphony Digital’s upcoming racing simulator was released earlier this month, and will remain up for grabs until the end of August.

In addition to letting you go hands-on with GT6, the demo also serves a second purpose in the form of GT Academy’s stage one qualifying time-trial. To date, over 765,000 entries have been logged from the 18 participating European countries.

Following this, the 16 racers who triumphed in the qualifying session will join with Goodwood Festival of Speed and The O2 Wild Card Live Events’ eight winners to take part in the National Final at Silverstone Circuit on August 12-13.

"The online qualifying demo on GT6 has been very well received and the numbers of entries to GT Academy is phenomenal," said Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) vice-president of product marketing, Usama Al-Qassab.

"After National Finals the action moves to Silverstone and, of course, these ultra-fast gamers will know exactly where to go having completed so many virtual laps there on the GT6 demo! Real driving starts to take over in GT Academy from National Finals, and we are looking forward to working with Nissan and Nismo as they implement some sophisticated performance tests for the gamers."

GT6 is due out exclusively on PlayStation 3 this holiday season.
