Polyphony Digital big cheese Kazunori Yamauchi’s revealed that he’d like to see the industry cobble together a game that has the player think about having to come to terms with death.
"It would make me happy to see a game that really makes you think about how a person should live and how they should come to terms with death,” said Yamauchi-san, during a chat at the DICE 2011 summit in Las Vegas.
"This theme is something that’s already explored in other forms of entertainment, whether it be music, movies or literature. It’s really a dream that I have, but obviously someone here can make it as well."
Elsewhere, the Gran Turismo creator also touched on last year’s rapturously received racer GT5, broaching the subject of mimesis. According to Yamauchi-san, a definition of mimesis can be described as "a certain reaction when you meet something incredible, find something new, and are infected with feverish desire to do something."
"What I want to do with Gran Turismo is invoke this mimesis on the audience of players."
Apparently, Yamauchi’s keen on establishing the venerable racing simulator as existing on the tip of the videogame and automobile industries. He likened this to new organisms springing up at the savannah and at the edge of a desert and rainforest.
