GT5 getting mechanical damage patch this month

Gran Turismo 5 will be patched with mechanical damage support this month, series creator Kazunori Yamauchi has confirmed.

To date, the Polyphony Digital racer only includes bodywork damage, though this will soon be upgraded to mechanical damage at some point in early December.

Elsewhere, Yamauchi-san also pledged his continued support for the Logitech G25 and G27 steering wheels, though didn’t shy away from admitting he’d like to see a “new steering device” come out “soon.”

He then touched base on YouTube integration, revealing the replay upload feature was scrapped from the retail release, as it was taking too long to render and gobbling up a fair amount of memory to boot. However, the feature is being considered for inclusion in a future update.

Lastly, Yamauchi-san teased that Polyphony briefly flirted with the idea of putting a free-roam area in GT5, allowing players to drive freely while adhering to the speed limit and traffic laws. Apparently, you could even vacate your car and go for a leisurely walk about.
