Grand Theft Auto San Andreas on PlayStation 3 has been rated by the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) ahead of its re-release on Sony’s last-generation console this winter.
In addition, the game’s box art has also appeared on Amazon’s U.S. branch, sporting the familiar ‘Greatest Hits’ branding seen in Sony’s range of best-selling PlayStation games. According to the listing, GTA San Andreas will hit stores on December 1. Both the rating and the box art were spotted by well-known Internet tipster, Wario64.

Grand Theft Auto San Andreas was originally released on the PlayStation 2 in 2004, becoming the biggest-selling video game of that year, and eventually went on to move an earth-shattering 27 million copies worldwide. As such, it remains the best-selling PS2 game of all time. San Andreas was later released for PC and Xbox in 2005, and also received a special 10th Anniversary re-release on Xbox 360 last year. While the game was also made available on PlayStation Network a few years ago, this is the first instance the title will receive a physical release on the platform.
The game focuses on the exploits of Carl ‘CJ’ Johnson, who after learning of his mother’s murder returns to his home of Los Santos. The game features three distinct cities, each one mottled after real-life U.S. metropolis: Los Santos (Los Angeles), San Fierro (San Francisco), and Las Venturas (Las Vegas). The game’s plot incorporates numerous events from real-life Los Angeles, such as the gang rivalry between the Bloods and Crips, the 1992 riots, and the crack epidemic of the 1980s.
