GTA series at 66 million units sold to date

Publisher Take-Two Interactive has announced that the Grand Theft Auto series has sold 66 million units worldwide since its inception in 1997.

The impressive figures have established the crime series as the company’s biggest franchise to date, according to Take-Two Chairman, Strauss Zelnick.

Elsewhere, the publisher divulged sales figures for its remaining Intellectual Properties (IP), revealing that Midnight Club has sold 11.5 million units to date, with Manhunt, Bully and Red Dead Revolver all selling 1.5 million units each.

Civilisation has also performed well, selling 8 million copies to date, followed by Max Payne at 7 million, with BioShock and Mafia both selling 2 million units. Finally its latest IP, Carnival Games, is said to be approaching the one million sales mark.

Executives also noted that Rockstar Games is currently developing “at least one major sequel” due for release next year, but did not go into detail on the matter.
