Earlier today, the corners of the internet that care about games went into a frenzy when Sony UK’s official corporate Twitter account suggested that Grand Theft Auto V was coming to PlayStation 4.
Turns out, the tweet was just a typo. We had more than a feeling this was the case, but here’s the record of what happened.
@SonyUK responded to one fan’s excitement for Grand Theft Auto V by saying, "GTA V is going to be amazing, especially on the PS4! What other games are you looking forward to playing, Norman?"
Enthusiast gamers and news outlets collectively turned their heads. And rightfully so–a next-gen version of Grand Theft Auto V would be the biggest news since a current-gen version of Grand Theft Auto V. @SonyUK even seemed to reiterate the point when it retweeted the same fan’s original tweet, which mistakenly identified the game as coming to PS4.
A few hours ago, the matter was resolved:
Apologies for the typo about GTA V. It’s due for release on PS3 on September 17th.

Rockstar also confirmed to Kotaku that the PS4 bit was a typo. @SonyUK isn’t affiliated with the European PlayStation division, which tweets from @PlayStationEU.
So, that’s that… right?
