Hazelight Studios’ Josef Fares Says ‘We Will Never Have Microtransactions’

Josef Fares, the outspoken founder of Split Fiction developer Hazelight Studios, has revealed during an interview with MinnMax that the company will ‘never have microtransactions’ in its games.

Anyone who has ever read or heard anything Fares has had to say will know that he never beats around the bush, and quite frankly his takes are always refreshingly honest. Sure enough, his latest comments certainly live up to that reputation.

Hazelight is not for sale. I mean, we will always do what we do, and we love what to do period,. And we will never be on the stock market as well — get that in, period. And we will never have microtransactions, bullshit, no shit, just make games. Period.

Split Fiction features two writers, Mio and Zoe, who specialised in science fiction and fantasy, respectively, as they are hooked up to a machine and end up trapped in their own creative endeavours. As such, the pair must work together to escape with their memories in-tact, relying on unique abilities to help them overcome various challenges while navigating worlds inspired by their works.

Split Fiction is due out on March 6, 2025 for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
