Helldivers 2 Dev Says Having Larger Squads Would ‘Require A Lot Of Work’

A developer at Arrowhead Game Studios has commented on the Helldivers 2 Discord about the possibility of introducing larger squads to the game, something which they admitted would require “a lot of work” to implement.

When asked by one player if the development team would consider adding bigger squads so you could have more than four at once, the game’s community manager had the following to say:

I do know that if we ever go down that route, it would require a lot of work. If it’s ever a thing (which I’m not at all sure it will be), it’s in the distant future.

Helldivers 2 is very much focussed around the concept of four-player squads, something which is evident by the fact there are four Helped spots in a Super Destroyer, and four spots on the victory podium at the end of a game. So, changing this would require more than just simply polkaing more players into a match, hence the comment about it requiring a lot of work.

Helldivers 2 was released in February 2024 for PS5 and PC, with a recent report claiming that Sony was in the very early stages of discussions with Microsoft to bring the game to Xbox formats.
