Helldivers 2 Updates Will Slow Down As Arrowhead Wants To Maintain A Standard Of Quality

Arrowhead Game Studios, the developer behind Helldivers 2, has revealed that it will be easing off the accelerator when it comes to releasing patches for the game, as it wants to ensure it maintains a standard of quality that fans expect of the team.

Speaking on the game’s Discord, Twinbeard, the game\s community manager, revealed that patches won’t be quite as frequent going forward, but that’s for good reason — they want to make sure they deliver the goods.

We want to take some more time for this one and potentially between future patches since we feel cadence has probably been a bit too high to be able to maintain the quality standard we want and you deserve. Patching a lot risks can easily disrupt work flow and takes more resources than you might think; it needs planning, implementing, monitoring, possible tweaking in hotfixes etc. For this one we prefer to stretch it out a little, hopefully with a good result.

When asked if major balance patches would be distributed on a bi-weekly basis or monthly going forward, Twinbeard responded:

Nothing that detailed is decided. I’d say it’s sth we have to try out and get a feel for. ATM we feel a slightly lower cadence overall will benefit both us, you and the game.

Helldivers 2 launched in February 2024 for PS5 and PC, and has become a huge success despite some initial hiccups and controversy surrounding Sony’s brief decision to make Steam users sign up for a PSN account to play the game. You can read our full review of the game here.
