Here’s the side-stories you’ll be playing in Yakuza 5

The latest issue of Famitsu (via Gematsu) has spilled the beans on the various mini-games and other distractions you’ll encounter in SEGA’s Yakuza 5.

According to the publication, the mob-‘em-up features a host of activities to take part in, which are presented as side-stories for each character within the open-world setting.

For example, series staple Kazuma Kiryu races taxis, a pastime he gets involved in after clashing with a street racing gang known as the Devil Killer. Kiryu-san is able to pick up passengers while racing against his competitors, and you’ll even be able to customise your vehicle too. Maybe this is what Crazy Taxi would be like if it arrived on current consoles? Or maybe not.

Elsewhere, Taiga Saejima loves to indulge in a spot of wild animal hunting following a near-death experience on a mountain. Here, he was rescued by an old chap who was hunting down a mythical dragon, who later teaches Saejima-san how to use a hunting rifle, set traps and stealthily approach prey.

Haruka Sawamura meanwhile has set her sights on becoming the number one idol in Osaka’s Princess League. This involves making it through various talk show appearances, magazine interviews and ‘hand shake meetings.’

Last but not least, Tatsuo Shinada loves a bit of baseball in his spare time, and takes up the sport again after meeting up with an old high-school chum.

Yakuza 5 is scheduled to ship exclusively for PlayStation 3 in Japan this winter.
