Hideo Kojima has revealed during a recent IGN interview that he’s unsure at this stage if Physint will arrive on a PlayStation console after the game’s publishing rights were picked up by Xbox.
In case you missed it, Physint was originally partnered with PlayStation until last week it was revealed that Sony had decided to pull out of the project, resulting in Kojima Productions looking for a new partner. Xbox would soon answer the call. A Bloomberg report claimed that one of the main reasons for Sony parting ways with Kojima-san on Physint was due to budget concerns and the game missing deadlines, though Kojima Productions has played down these reports.
Kojima was asked by IGN if Physint would still launch on PlayStation as Xbox is now publishing the action-espionage title, to which he replied, “I don’t know the answer to that – that would be a question for Xbox.” He added “In previous updates from Xbox, I thought that they have this kind of stance where they want to deliver to as many gamers as possible, no matter what the platform is.”
Elsewhere, the Metal Gear creator was asked if development of Physint has shifted to a new game engine due to the move from PlayStation to Xbox, assuming it was using the Decima engine seeing as Kojima had partnered with Sony originally. However, Kojima replied, “I haven’t really decided yet. I’m still experimenting,” implying a game engine hasn’t even been decided on yet.
As previously reported, in the same interview Kojima stated that he doesn’t ‘have any bad feelings against Sony‘ despite parting ways with the format holder on Physint.
