Hideo Kojima has revealed that Rockstar Games’ upcoming Red Dead Redemption 2 is his most anticipated game of 2017.
“Looking ahead, for games, my pick would have to be Red Dead Redemption [2],” said Kojima-san, during an interview with Games Industry International.
He added: “2016 was year one for virtual reality. Screen-viewing culture hadn’t changed for about 120 years, so I think the impact of VR will significantly change entertainment, our daily lives, education, culture, and so on. I don’t believe this to be only about games.”

Red Dead Redemption 2 trailer teases long-awaited Wild West sequel
Rockstar announced Red Dead Redemption 2 a few months back with an impressive debut trailer hinting at multiple playable protagonists, a rumor that has since gathered pace in just the last week. The game will also feature an extensive online multiplayer component, similar to what we previously saw with Grand Theft Auto 5, with PS4 owners gaining early access to various goodies.
While a concrete Red Dead Redemption 2 release date has yet to be confirmed, Rockstar has said that we can expect the follow-up to 2010’s critically acclaimed western to launch at some point in fall 2017. Despite the anticipation surrounding the title, analysts have chimed with the belief that RDR2 won’t top its predecessor in terms of worldwide sales, at least not by a significant margin.
As for Kojima-san, he’s busy working on the upcoming PS4-exclusive Death Stranding, an action title starring the likes of Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead) and Mads Mikkelson (Star Wars: Rogue One). Not much is known about the title at present, though Kojima-san has indicated we can expect Death Stranding to drop at some point before 2019. It’ll also feature an open-world setting and feature some form of multiplayer.
The project marks Kojima-san’s first title since departing Konami this time last year and going on to form an independent branch of Kojima Productions.
