Hohokum release date announced for PS4, PS3 & PS Vita

After what’s felt like an eternity, Hohokum – the quirky new offering from developers Honeyslug – has had its release date set for August 12 across PS4, PS3 and PS Vita.

Speaking via Sony’s U.S. blog the indie developer confirmed the much-anticipated news, putting to rest fears that the game – which started as a side project six years ago – may not see release this summer.

For the uninitiated, Hohokum deviates from the conventions of score-keeping and time limits, instead relying on more relaxing, atmospheric gameplay with an acute focus on exploration. Taking its cue from famed party games as far back as the original PlayStation, Hohokum uses visual and aural stimuli to prompt the players throughout the game, creating an experience matched by few.

‘’We didn’t have a clear mechanic “hook” when starting out — more an overall sense of wanting to make a game that was relaxing and evoked a particular sense of free-form play. Over time this approach allowed the game we have today to emerge organically. I’m not sure we could have done it any other way’’, said Designer Ricky Haggett.
