As you can see from the image below, there’s a distinct reference to Hideo Kojima’s upcoming PlayStation 4-exclusive Death Stranding found within Horizon: Zero Dawn, namely the shape of the ‘Abandoned Amulet,’ which resembles the Kojima Productions mascot, Ludens. The in-game description also references the necklace worn by Norman Reedus’ character in the first Death Stranding trailer.

The fact Horizon: Zero Dawn contains this little nod to Kojima-san’s upcoming PS4-exclusive shouldn’t come as a surprise. After all, the Metal Gear creator has partnered with Guerrilla Games to use the Amsterdam-based studio’s Decima game engine to power Death Stranding, so we aren’t surprised to see a sneaky reference creep into Aloy’s robot dino-mashing adventure.

Death Stranding release date

Kojima’s upcoming action title has yet to receive a concrete release date, although the game designer has confirmed that it will hit stores at some point before 2019. Death Stranding has been described as an action game and will feature open-world and online elements, and in addition to Reedus, will also reunite Kojima with Hollywood director Guillermo Del Toro, after the pair teamed up on the doomed Silent Hills.

Horizon: Zero Dawn is scheduled for release in North America on February 28 and in Europe on March 1. The game takes place on a post-apocalyptic earth inhabited by hulking, dinosaur-like robots, with players controlling hunter Aloy as she ventures into the wilderness in an attempt to destroy the mechanised beasts and salvage their vital components.
