Mass Effect Andromeda developer BioWare has extended its congratulations to Guerrilla Games on the impending release date of its PlayStation 4-exclusive title, Horizon: Zero Dawn.
Writing on Twitter, BioWare’s General Manager, Aaryn Flynn, commented, “Congratulations to @Guerrilla on Horizon: Zero Dawn! Making new IP is hard, but so important for our industry. Can’t wait to play 🙂”
Horizon: Zero Dawn Review – PS4
BioWare is in the same boat as Guerrilla Games, as it’s currently working on a brand new IP that will launch by April 2018. Electronic Arts’ Andrew Wilson said of the title, "This game has the potential to fundamentally disrupt the way people think about an action title, bringing friends together to play in an exhilarating new way. We’re very excited about the future of this new franchise and its ability to attract a large, global audience."
Horizon: Zero Dawn release date
Horizon: Zero Dawn is scheduled for release on PS4 in the U.S. on February 28 and in Europe on March 1. The game is the first original IP from Guerrilla Games since it launched the Killzone series in the mid-2000s on PS2, and is a significant departure from its first-person shooter stablemate. For starters, there’s no gunplay whatsoever; players control a hunter named Aloy as she hunts down mechanised behemoths to salvage their vital components with comparatively primitive weaponry.
The action-RPG includes a lush open-world to explore that is ripe with side quests and dialogue choices, with no loading times marring the adventure once the game has been booted up. As such, Horizon completely eschews the linear narrative approach that Killzone employed. Sony hopes the game will spawn a major franchise going forward, while analysts have predicted the title may end up selling nearly as much as Uncharted 4 and Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.
