Horizon Zero Dawn sequel may not featue Aloy as main protagonist

Guerrilla Games has suggested it may replace Horizon Zero Dawn heroine Aloy as the main protagonist in potential sequels to the blockbuster open-world action title.

Speaking during an interview with GamereactorEU, Angela Gillespie, Senior Producer for the Amsterdam-based studio, noted that the world of Horizon has a wealth of characters to pick from, hinting the developer may go with a brand new protagonist for Horizon 2 and beyond.

"I think Aloy will always be a part of Horizon: Zero Dawn, but as you might have seen, there is a big number of characters and tribes in the game, and we have a rich history," Gillespie said. "We spent years developing these tribes, so there is a possibility for other characters in the future, but Aloy will always remain in Horizon: Zero Dawn."

While a sequel has yet to be officially confirmed by Sony or Guerrilla Games (the first game hasn’t even hit shops yet, so it’s a bit premature to be talking about a follow-up at this stage), Sony has said it’s eager for Zero Dawn to spawn a potential franchise for the platform holder.

Nothing has been announced to date but I think there’s a lot of potential for this to be an exciting new franchise for us – we’ll just have to wait and see," Sony U.K.’s Joe Edwards told MCV last week.

Horizon Zero Dawn is due for release in North America on February 28 and in Europe on March 1, exclusively for PlayStation 4. The game takes place in a post-apocalyptic world inhabited by giant, mechanised dinosaurs, with players controlling hunter Aloy as she attempts to salvage their vital components to aid the remnants of humanity in their continuing struggle to survive.
