How SoftOrbits uses neural networks to add sunlight to your photos

SoftOrbits, founded by Eugene Ustinenkov in 2006, has recently integrated neural networks into its software, enabling users to enhance lighting and colors in their photos with just a few clicks. Now, adding sunlight to your photos or creating the warm ambiance of a sunset — tasks that once required specialized skills or lengthy edits — is handled quickly and automatically.

The AI technology integrated into the company’s tools has enhanced color correction and improved processing accuracy to 86% — almost double the industry average.

“We always aimed to provide users with the most functional and easy-to-use tools. AI has opened new possibilities for us — we’re no longer constrained by technical factors and can fully focus on creativity and user convenience,” says Eugene Ustinenkov, CEO of SoftOrbits and Candidate of Technical Sciences.

AI in action: how SoftOrbits changed the image editing process

The 2025 innovations affected seven key products within the company, including the popular HEIC to JPEG Converter and Photo Retoucher. Both tools were already in high demand and received significant updates with neural network editing capabilities.

What’s new?

  1. Precision color correction. SoftOrbits now allows users to adjust lighting and add effects to their photos in a single click. For example, you can transform a gloomy morning into a bright sunny afternoon or add the warm glow of a sunset.
  2. Restoration of damaged photos. SoftOrbits’ solutions can now not only correct image defects but also restore lost elements of photos using neural networks.
  3. Object removal from photos. With AI, SoftOrbits tools can identify and remove watermarks, text, and other unwanted elements automatically with no traces of editing.

The updated HEIC to JPEG Converter is an especially impressive example. This tool not only converts HDR images but also preserves their original light balance.

“Previously, users often complained that HDR photo brightness and detail were lost during conversion. Our products have made this process much better, retaining original nuances and even offering opportunities for further enhancement,” comments Eugene Ustinenkov, CEO of SoftOrbits with over 16 years of expertise in software development, testing, and digital marketing.

From early tools to advanced photo editing solutions

SoftOrbits’ 19-year-long journey has been defined by bold decisions. For example, back in 2010, the team was the first to launch a tool for batch removal of date and time stamps from photos.

This idea stemmed from Eugene’s personal experience: after returning from a trip to Bali, he discovered that there was no software on the market that offered quick and efficient removal of date stamps in batch mode. Inspired by the lack of such a solution, he developed a utility himself, and it became a favorite among users.

Since then, SoftOrbits has continued to set trends in photo editing tools, releasing popular products like Photo Stamp Remover and Photo Retoucher, now widely recognized for their simplicity and effectiveness.

Did you know? The company’s flagship product, Photo Retoucher, is especially popular thanks to its powerful features for restoring old photos and removing unwanted objects. Users often highlight how easy the program is to use, even for beginners with no experience working with complex editors.

Global recognition

SoftOrbits has long earned respect in the software market and is ranked among Europe’s top 20 developers by OISV. The company’s apps and utilities are installed by millions of users worldwide, and its active client base exceeds 300,000.

“We are proud that our products help people solve complex tasks. The most important thing for us is seeing users bring their photos back to life using our technologies,” says Hannes Jansen, author and content editor at SoftOrbits

Currently, SoftOrbits is actively expanding its AI focus and integrating advanced algorithms to improve its image processing solutions.

The future of SoftOrbits: new frontiers of accessibility

In 2025, SoftOrbits is stepping beyond traditional formats. The company is actively implementing SaaS solutions for image and video processing powered by AI. This will reduce the requirements for local devices by allowing users to work on their photos directly in the cloud.

“We aim to make our technologies accessible to everyone,” emphasizes Eugene Ustinenkov, CEO of SoftOrbits. “SaaS is our future because it removes barriers for users, enabling access to powerful tools anywhere and anytime.”
