Learn how to fish in Final Fantasy XV and catch some tasty treats the easy way. In Chapter One, you’ll soon stumble across your first spot at Galdin Quay to cast your reel, but if you don’t know how to fish properly it can be a little frustrating getting your first catch.
If you preordered the game, you’ll have access to different lures which are more efficient, but you’ll discover new rods, lures, reels and better lines as you progress.
Step-by-step guide to fishing in Final Fantasy XV
1. Cast your rod by moving the cursor on the mini-map to where you see yellow dots, which represent fish. Aim just behind the fish. Blue dots represent rare fish!
2. You can now reel in and move the left thumbstick to change the direction of the line as it’s reeled in.
3. Start reeling in at different speeds – quick jolts, and repetitive taps BUT pause occasionally. You want to gauge the interest of the fish and make sure it’s heading your way.
4. Use the left thumbstick to direct the line away from the fish. Don’t head right into the middle of a shoal. You’re trying to lure them, so move the line like the bait is a fish swimming around as they’re more likely to chase it.
5. Once the fish has taken the bait, focus and follow the prompts using the left thumbstick to ensure your line doesn’t snap, and keep reeling in.
The more you fish, the more Noctis will level up his fishing skill, and the bigger the AP bonus you’ll receive for finding rarer fish.
The following fishing bonuses are as follows:
Level 1: No Bonus
Level 2: Fishing line wears down less quickly
Level 3: Fishing shops offer a 10% discount
Level 4: Chances of hooking a fish increased
Level 5: Catch bigger fish
Level 6: Fishing shops offer a deeper discount
Level 7: Fishing line wears down slowly
Level 8: Chances of hooking a fish increased even further
Level 9: Maximum discount at fishing shops
Level 10: Ability to catch the biggest fish
