Children of the ‘80s: Ever wanted to play PS4 games with a major retro twist? Well, if you have the skills then you could follow in the footsteps of this clever modder, who has transformed his PS4 into a machine that accepts grey NES-style cartridges.
Modder Frank Zhao says he “did it for the LULz’, using 3D printing software (Ultimaker) to make the cartridges while tinkering around with the hard-drive to come up with his inspired design. He even created authentic-looking 8bit art for titles such as Grand Theft Auto V and Need For Speed Rivals.
Each game is stored on a SATA hard-drive housed within the cartridge. A SATA drive reader was then installed onto the PS4 motherboard. Plug the cartridge into the custom-built slot on the PS4 and, hey presto, it reads the data and boots up the game.
