inFamous producer Brian Fleming has been chatting to Gamespot about the exclusive PlayStation 3 action-adventure.
For those unaware, inFamous is a new IP from Sly Cooper developer Sucker Punch Productions, and revolves around a chap named Cole who finds himself suddenly able to suck up and manipulate electricity. Throw these powers together with some nifty parkour-style acrobatics, a disaster-stricken urban backdrop and an open-ended morality system, and you have all the makings of a classic sandbox adventure.
Cole’s escapades, said Fleming, are limited by the availability of the city’s power grid. Venture into an area beset by blackouts and you won’t have the juice to pull off some of the more devastating moves available. Some powers can be performed using only Cole’s innate bioelectricity, while others – such as calling down a fusillade of lightning across an entire street – require a full power meter.
Fleming also went into more detail on Cole’s friends and enemies. Chief among the former are Zeke, a "dyed-in-the-wool conspiracy theorist" who believes in Cole’s powers more than Cole believes in them himself, and Trish, a city nurse and Cole’s occasional girlfriend. Apparently you’ll also be able to swap tips with a police officer a la Batman and Commissioner Gordon.
inFamous is due out in the USA on May 1, 2009.
