NetherRealm is working on a sequel to its 2013 superhero fighting game Injustice: Gods Among Us, according to a report on GameBlog.fr (via NeoGAF).
The site’s source claims that Injustice 2 will hit PlayStation 4, PC and Xbox One in May 2017, and will be announced at some point between now and the end of E3 in mid-June.
Publisher Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has not announced a sequel, so take this with a pinch of salt at present. However, with NetherRealm having produced a new game every two years since 2011, it would certainly fit snuggly in with the developer’s release schedule.
Injustice was directed by Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon, and pits heroes and villains from the DC Comic Book universe against each other in a massive punch-up. The game received critical acclaim and picked up numerous awards, such as the gong for Fighting Game of the Year at VGX and the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences’ DICE awards.
Warner Bros. later released an Ultimate Edition of Injustice featuring all DLC, which also brought the game to PS4 for the first time.
