The developer behind the critically-acclaimed Burnout franchise is reportedly beavering away on an ‘unannounced racing title,’ due out some time this year.
That’s according to a listing on the CV of a Criterion Games employee – specifically a lead cinematic artist for marketing – which appears alongside the words, EA Games 2013.”
In addition, the mystery title also crops up on the LinkedIn profile for another Criterion employee. Those of you hoping for a scrap of info as to what franchise we could be looking at are out of luck, however – neither listing offers up any hints.
Could another Burnout be in the pipeline? It’s possible, seeing as how the developer said it intends to return to the franchise “at some point” down the line. Then again, it later said that a sequel to Burnout Paradise is “highly unlikely.”
The company also hinted at reviving Road Rash, the classic 16-bit biker series that found great success back in the early-mid 1990s. Specifically, Criterion’s creative director Craig Sullivan told The Guardian: “Road Rash seems like a good fit for Criterion…”
Still with us? Good, because there’s more.
Criterion’s mystery listing could in fact pertain to the studio’s work on the Need for Speed title currently in development at Ghost Games. The Burnout studio is said to be heavily involved with the new game, which is believed to be this year’s entry in the fast-paced street racing series.
Finally, Criterion’s Alex Ward Tweeted yesterday that he had spent “another #epic day working with an #epic team on something #amazing.”
