Kaos Studios has got its sights set on squeezing a franchise out of upcoming shooter Homefront, though noted a sequel is entirely contingent on the success of the hotly-anticipated series debut.
Homefront’s generated quite a buzz over the past few months, and the fact it’s become publisher THQ’s most pre-ordered game of all time in the US bodes well for a potential follow-up.
"We’ve been talking about it for quite a while," said Kaos creative director and general manager, David Votypka, during a natter with Eurogamer. "THQ and Kaos have always looked at it as a franchise. Assuming it does well, that’s certainly the plan – to move on to future Homefront products."
As for what Homefront 2 may bring to the table, Votypka remained tight-lipped on any specific details, though did hint at incorporating what he referred to as a ‘third gameplay layer.’
"I can’t talk too much about it," he commented, "but I will say that in Homefront we have some great in-game storytelling moments and we have our combat moments. I’d like to add a third gameplay layer to that. A really gameplay centric layer. I’ll leave it at that."
Homefront is unleashed on PlayStation 3, PC and Xbox 360 platforms on March 18.
