PlayStation Vita’s hotly-anticipated Killzone: Mercenary hits stores across Europe and the U.K. this week, and there’s a lot riding on its beefy shoulders. After all, gamers have been clamouring for a defining Vita FPS for some time now, and developer Guerrilla Games has seemingly pulled out all the stops to make that happen. Gorgeous visuals? Check. Dual analogue control? Check. Grisly throat-slashing kills? Check. Full multiplayer component? Check.
Set after the original Killzone, this portable shoot-‘em-up crams all the staples you’d expect of the franchise into one handheld package — but with a twist. Playing as grizzly gun-for-hire Danner, gamers are encouraged to rake in as much cash as possible by landing headshots, hacking terminals, using melee attacks and generally being as creative as possible with their weapons set. Throw in some nice use of the touchscreen, a full-fledged multiplayer campaign and varied mission objectives, and you have the recipe for a triple-A handheld experience.
However, is Killzone: Mercenary ultimately half-baked in its execution or is it the must-have title PS Vita has been looking for? See below for our full review round-up.
Just to note, PSU.com hasn’t yet managed to experience the multiplayer aspect of the game, so our own review won’t be up for a few more days.
