King Arthur Game From Ubisoft Was Cancelled Due To Ex-CCO – Report

Ubisoft was planning a mammoth fantasy game based around the legendary King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, only for the project to end up on the cutting room floor due thanks to its then-chief creative officer, Serge Hascoët.

Ubisoft King Arthur Game Details Revealed

The cancelled project, known as Avalon, was being spearheaded by Mike Laidlaw, a former member of BioWare’s Dragon Age team, who joined Ubisoft in 2018. However, he departed just a year later without shipping any titles.

According to a report on Bloomberg, Hascoë wasn’t a big fan of the fantasy genre, and tasked with team with being “better than Tolkien” if it were to happen.

He resigned from the company earlier this month in wake of a number of sexual misconduct allegations within Ubisoft, among which suggested he was responsible for pushing a frat house-like culture.

According to a number of staff who worked on Avalon, the game was progressing steadily and feature cooperative multiplayer, similar to what Capcom achieved in Monster Hunter. Efforts to keep the project alive but with different setting also failed, as Hascoët shot them all down in flames.
