Seth Kearsley has revealed the pilot episode for his scrapped Kingdom Hearts animated series on YouTube.
Disney TV hired Kearsley, who previously worked on Eight Crazy Nights and The Looney Tunes Show, to direct the Kingdom Hearts series in 2002 — the same year the original game came out.
A pilot episode tested “exceptionally well,” but the series was ultimately shelved due to Square Enix planing “many more games” in the series.
Kearsley has been pretty open about the Kingdom Hearts series in the past, having revealed storyboards to DeviantArt in 2013 and in 2018 hosted an AMA on Kingdom Hearts’ subreddit. His decision to upload the pilot episode came following a near-fatal car crash in January, where he realised that he wanted to “put out in the world.”

Square Enix wasn’t kidding when it said it was planning many more games in the series 20 years ago. Since that time, we’ve seen numerous sequels and spin-off games, and Kingdom Hearts 4 is currently in development.
