In one of the more bizarre stories to surface this week, Square Enix has confirmed that Grammy Award Winning artist Skrillex and internationally renowned singer songwriter Utada Hikaru will be collaborating on the Kingdom Hearts III opening theme.
The track, titled ‘Face My Fears’, will be produced by Poo Bear – the same guy who worked on Justin Bieber’s ‘What Do You Mean?’ Although, whether or not that counts as an accolade or a blemish depends entirely on your opinion of the Canadian pop star.
Kingdom Hearts III Opening Theme Releases on the 19th January
‘Face My Fears’ releases on the 19th January 2019 alongside Hikaru’s ‘Don’t Think Twice’; a remixed version of which was originally intended to be the game’s opening theme, before Skrillex and Hikaru decided to create a brand-new track instead.
With “long-time” Kingdom Hearts fan Skrillex explaining that his friendship with the Japanese songstress persuaded them to pen an entirely new track.
It’ll have to go some to match the wonderful ‘Simple and Clean’ and ‘Sanctuary’ – the opening theme’s to Kingdom Hearts I and II respectively. But it’s only fair that we reserve judgement until the track launches in January.
The long-awaited game itself, meanwhile, releases ten days later on the 29th January 2019. Coming to PS4 and Xbox One.
It looks spectacular so far and, according to PSU’s Ernest Lin, is a hell of a lot of fun to play (when it works, anyway).
