Kwalee Cuts 10% Of Workforce As It Looks To Make ‘Significant Growth Opportunities’

British developer and publisher Kwalee has announced that it is cutting 10% of its workforce in order to make room for new growth opportunities.

Around 40 people at the studio have lost their jobs within the last few months at the studio, but it now expects to swell its workforce to around 410 — 420 (the company currently employs about 400 people). The majority of job losses at Kwalee have been attributed to its Leamington Spa HQ, with a spokesperson for the studio telling MobileGamer.biz:

We are reshaping our business and our team to best capture the significant growth opportunities that currently exist in the sector, including hiring for 20 new roles. Kwalee has the global scale, management expertise and security of funding, combined with a differentiated strategy to take advantage of organic and acquisitive growth opportunities.

While Kwalee’s development arm is focussed primarily on mobile games, its publishing division has distributed many console releases, with The Precinct being its next project for PS5. The company is run by David Darling, one of the co-founders of legendary UK-based steam Codemasters, which formed in 1986.
