Cliffy B’s Lawbreakers hasn’t got off to the best of starts. Despite the gravity-defying shooter getting some outstanding reviews, as well a few not-so-good ones, it’s been reported that low player numbers may be cause for concern for his studio Boss Key Productions.
Destructoid reported that the PC version on Steam had struggled to bypass 400 concurrent players despite an initial spurt on its launch week in early August.
These were just the PC player figures for Lawbreakers, of course, which has also released on PS4. In an interview with Gamespot, Cliffy B confirms that the PS4 version is doing much better, though doesn’t confirm any statistics.
"There is a situation where players look at numbers on Steam; that doesn’t happen on PlayStation 4. I don’t have the numbers in front of me, but you look at PC, [concurrent user] health versus PS4, PS4 is doing fine," he said.
Cliffy B has previously said that it’s “a marathon and not a sprint”, admits that launching near ‘Destiny Season’ didn’t help, and still has plenty of plans for new Lawbreakers content, a possible discount on the game, as well as free weekends to bulk up the player count and generate some enthusiasm.
