LEGO The Lord of the Rings handed release date

LEGO The Lord of the Rings will be released on home consoles in North America on November 13, Warner Bros. has announced.

Interestingly, the handheld versions – 3DS, DS and PlayStation Vita – are in shops now, while over in the U.K. the game will be released across all formats on November 23.

As if you haven’t already twigged by now, this latest LEGO adventure is based on Peter Jackson’s award-winning Lord of the Rings Motion Picture Trilogy, depicting the quest of Frodo Baggins and his companions as they seek to destroy the One Ring and topple the evil Sauron.

Gamers will be able to step into the shoes of an array of iconic characters from the films, including Frodo, Aragorn, Gandalf, Legolas, Gimli, Boromir, Sam, Merry and Pippin. Aside from battling Sauron’s minions in your quest, you’ll also solve riddles and explore rich, fantasy landscapes plucked straight from the films.

In addition to featuring music and voice acting from the movies, the game will also tone down the slapstick humour commonly associated with LEGO-licenced games, as well as altering a few scenes to make them more family friendly.
