Heavy Rain producer David Cage is slowly unveiling the gameplay mechanics behind those superb visuals, taking some unique steps to differentiate the experience from other adventure games.
Most significant of all, Cage has revealed that you’ll only directly control the head and shoulders of the lead character, with a single button used to walk or run around linear-pathed environments.
Each scene is akin to a set from a movie, with a huge roster of differing endings depending on the way you play. Imagine a choose-your-own adventure title but in videogame form, and you’d be halfway there.
Whilst character control is limited, the environment is detailed and interactive, with the Cage proclaiming almost every object in each scene can be used or manipulated with the motion-controlled Sixaxis or DualShock 3. There will be over 60 ‘scenes’ in the context of the full story.
Colour us intrigued. This could very well turn out to be the sequel Fahrenheit/Indogo Prophecy fans have long waited for.
