Now that the new PlayStation is available for sale, let’s remember how the original PlayStation revolutionized its generation by introducing us to the 3D worlds we know today. We have made a list to remember the games we all enjoyed playing.
Metal Gear Solid
Metal Gear Solid was very different game in its era. It required more than a certain level of skill from a player, it also put their mind to work as it made the player think. And that’s where it stood out. The game’s object is to guide the player without being caught at the end of the mission. That’s where the game rewards you. You may not go stealth, yet you will still enjoy the game, but stealth has something different to show you, something from the creator’s vision. A lovely touch with the radar as a mini-map that showed you the enemies’ position and if they have understood you or not. It’s one of those games that you will either love or hate—released in 1998 by Konami.
Final Fantasy VII
This game couldn’t be missing from our list. Especially after the release of the remake, it raised the bar for RPG games. Cloud and Zephiroth are symbols in most industries because this title was released in 1997. It managed to stand out in all three pillars, the gameplay, the story, and the graphics. The unique battle system still inspires new creators; the story has one of the best plot twists, and the graphics were the best we had ever seen.
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Many players, when they hear the title Castlevania, immediately they think of the Symphony of the Night, and that says a lot. The truth is that many were surprised by the fact that a slightly outdated kind of second platform action would achieve a lot in the era of 3D games, but Konami had other plans. Use all the power of the console to create this masterpiece. The game has deservedly earned its title as metroidvania. The player, as Alucard, explores Dracula’s castle on a huge interconnected map, killing whatever it finds in its path. Its primary weapon is a whip, while we also find secondary weapons that we can use on various types of enemies. It can also be transformed into a bat, wolf, and fog to access specific parts of the map. The game was released in March 1997 by Konami.
Gran Turismo 2
Without being deprived of anything from the first, it offered everything to a superlative degree. A massive game that had 2 CDs that said a lot about the season. With about 650 cars and over 30 manufacturers, it defeated NFS High Stakes, its direct competitor. The graphics were so good that if someone who didn’t know entered the room while you were playing, he would think that it was a TV program, not a game—a technological achievement developed by Polyphony Digital and released in Japan in December 1999.
Tomb Raider 2
The first Tomb Raider was a revolutionary game for its time. Absolute freedom is a 3d action-adventure platform game. Nevertheless, the response was not what they expected because people did not know Lara well. With the second part, however, there was panic. Although, it wasn’t a sequel very different from the first one, the game spread worldwide. Lara could do almost anything. She climbed horizontally and vertically, rolled in the opposite direction, was caught by rocks, and had an excellent extra tutorial in her mansion where you could practice on all of them. As for the weapons, in addition to the virtual double pistols with infinite bullets, we also had a harpoon gun, grenade launcher, an M16 automatic, and much more. But we also had the introduction of vehicles such as a snowmobile and a small motorboat. It was released in November 1997 and developed by Eidos Interactive.
Concluding
PlayStation 1 has given us hours of fun, and with the consoles’ continuous evolution, it brings us more entertainment. All the new best exclusives, the best games, even casino games, are at our disposal. However, old games will always be in our hearts.
