Lies Of P was one of the best surprises Souslike fans got in the last few years. Developer Round-8 took the absence of a Bloodborne sequel or remake personally, and decided to give everyone ‘Bloodborne at home,’ with their own twists that made it all pay off far more than anyone could have expected.
The long-awaited DLC is finally due to arrive this coming summer, with Lies Of P: Overture. After that, it’s still a mystery regarding what Round-8 will do with the Lies Of P series.
Although we can at least cross out any speculation that Round-8 would make the next game in the series a multiplayer title. After playing Elden Ring: Nightreign, director of Lies Of P, Choi Ji-won, called the upcoming multiplayer title “refreshing,” and also added that it emboldened him to work harder on Overture.
Speaking to Eurogamer at GDC, Choi said “I’ve tried [Nightreign] and it was very refreshing and new, so that obviously gave me the impression that they’re good developers, they always push their boundaries, their imagination and vision, and it shows. In turn, that for some reason motivated me to deliver the Overture experience as good as it could be.”
Choi added he and the team aren’t closed off to making a new kind of game, similar to how FromSoftware is working on its first multiplayer-focused title, but it’s not exactly the team’s current focus.
“Our primary focus from the concept of this game was to deliver a high quality, premium action game that is single-player. There were a lot of learnings for us [from the base game] and we did our best to reflect those improvements. The expansion is the completion of that. In terms of our future endeavours, we are definitely open to any sort of consideration in the future.”
